Resident Evil Requiem has now been launched on PC via Steam. So, Steam Deck owners are curious to know whether the game is playable on the Steam Deck. Or not. At launch, the game does not carry an official Steam Deck Verified badge from Valve Corporation. This simply means it has not yet completed Valve’s compatibility testing process.
However, the lack of a Verified badge does not mean it is unplayable. In fact, early user reports suggest the opposite. Players who tested the game on Steam Deck right after release confirm that it boots properly, runs through Proton without major issues, and is fully playable with some settings adjustments.

Based on multiple early tests and performance impressions, we have some interesting data to share. The game runs at around 30 to 45 frames per second when graphics settings are lowered. Demanding scenes can dip slightly below that, especially during intense action sequences or heavy lighting effects.
To achieve stable performance, most players are using:
- Low texture settings
- Reduced shadow quality
- FSR upscaling enabled
- Frame rate cap around 40 FPS
With these tweaks, the experience becomes surprisingly smooth for a modern AAA horror title.
Battery life will vary depending on your power profile, but as expected, this is not a light game. It pushes the hardware harder than older Resident Evil entries.
Capcom’s RE Engine has a strong reputation for optimization. Earlier titles like Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 ran quite well on the Steam Deck with tuned settings. Requiem is more visually demanding. Lighting, environmental detail, and character models show clear improvements. That naturally increases GPU load on a handheld device. Even then, the engine’s efficiency still helps keep the game within playable territory.
Steam Deck controls work properly. The built-in controller layout fits well for a third-person horror game. Players who prefer more precise aiming can enable gyro controls or use the right trackpad for fine adjustments. There are no major control compatibility issues reported so far.

Should You Play It on Steam Deck?
If you are comfortable lowering settings and aiming for a stable 30 to 40 FPS experience, the game is very playable. The smaller screen of the Steam Deck actually helps mask some visual compromises.
So, here’s the summary
- Playable: Yes
- Steam Deck Verified: No
- Expected FPS: 30 to 45 with low settings
