If you are passionate about videography, you can understand the importance of RAW videos. RAW video is basically the uncompressed and unprocessed video captured using a camera sensor. This is the reason RAW video footage are always large in size and only a few application can decode it. RAW footage has a full dynamic range of the sensor and offers mode details. So video editors have the flexibility to adjust brightness, highlights, shadows, color saturation, white balance, sharpening and so much more as per the need.

Android phones usually record videos in MP4 format. For recording raw videos, most people use high-end camcorders or mirrorless cameras. But now you can also record RAW videos using your Android phone.

MotionCam is the Android app that supports true RAW video recording with support for CinemaDNG. CinemaDNG is the video format developed by Adobe for storing RAW digital cinema files.

Once you record a RAW video using the app, tap on the Manage Videos button at the top to access the video. It shows you the recorded video file. There, you get an option to convert the video to DNG. Tap on the Convert to DNG button and then select the folder to save the recorded video in RAW DNG file on your phone.

The saving process will take a few seconds to minutes depending on your phone’s specs and video length. After the processing finishes, you can see several DNG files in the folder you selected for storing RAW files. Then you can import these CinemaDNG files to a good video editing software and start video editing.

This camera app uses advanced computational photography algorithms and lets you capture true RAW video at full sensor resolution on a high-end device. The app also offers manual controls for shutter speed and ISO.

You need to have a high-end smartphone for using this phone. There should also be large internal storage because RAW video takes a lot of data. Just the 10 seconds of RAW video file can be 700 MB in size. The phone should also have complete Camera2 API support.
