Apple has announced the new MacBook Air powered by the M5 chip. The latest version of the company’s most popular laptop focuses on faster performance, stronger AI features, and improved connectivity. It is available in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes.

The MacBook Air keeps its thin and light aluminum design. It is fanless and completely silent during use. The laptop is available in four colors: sky blue, midnight, starlight, and silver.

It features a 13.6 inch or 15.3 inch Liquid Retina display with 500 nits brightness and support for one billion colors. Text appears sharp, and content looks vivid.

The MacBook Air with M5 features a 10-core CPU. Apple says it includes the fastest CPU core in its class, which improves responsiveness in everyday tasks and heavy workloads.

The chip also includes up to a 10-core GPU. Each GPU core has a built-in Neural Accelerator. This helps improve AI processing directly on the device. According to Apple, the new MacBook Air delivers up to four times faster AI performance compared to the M4 model, and up to 9.5 times faster than M1-based versions.

This makes the laptop suitable for creative work, 3D rendering, AI-powered tools, and even running large language models locally.

The M5 chip also brings faster unified memory with 153GB per second memory bandwidth. Apple claims this is a 28 percent improvement over M4. This helps with smoother multitasking and faster app launches.

Performance gains include:

  • Up to 6.9x faster AI video enhancement compared to M1 models
  • Up to 6.5x faster 3D rendering in Blender compared to M1
  • Up to 2.7x faster image processing in Affinity compared to M1

Web browsing is also said to be up to 50 percent faster compared to certain Intel-powered PC laptops.

The MacBook Air with M5 now starts at 512GB. It can be configured up to 4TB for users who need more space for large files and projects.

Apple says the new SSD delivers up to two times faster read and write speeds compared to the previous generation. This helps students, creators, and professionals handle large photo libraries, videos, and AI workloads more easily.

The MacBook Air runs on macOS Tahoe. The update introduces design changes and new personalization options.

Apple Intelligence features are integrated across apps and system tools. Live Translation in Messages allows users to communicate across languages. Shortcuts can now use intelligent actions powered by on-device AI. Continuity features also allow users to handle calls and notifications from their iPhone directly on the Mac.

The laptop includes a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View support. It also features a three-mic array and an immersive speaker system with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos.

The new N1 wireless chip enables Wi Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. For wired connections, the MacBook Air offers two Thunderbolt 4 ports and MagSafe charging. It also supports up to two external displays.

Battery life is rated at up to 18 hours. Apple says users upgrading from Intel-based models can get up to six more hours of usage. Fast charging is also supported.
