Limited Run Games has announced a new retro compilation, ‘MARVEL MaXimum Collection’, in partnership with Marvel Games and Konami. It is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The company has not shared a release date yet.
The MARVEL MaXimum Collection brings together 13 classic Marvel games from arcade machines, 8-bit consoles, 16-bit consoles, and handheld systems. The focus is on preserving Marvel’s early gaming history and making it accessible on modern platforms.
One of the biggest highlights in the lineup is X-Men: The Arcade Game. The classic beat ’em up will include online multiplayer support for up to six players. Other notable titles in the collection include Captain America and The Avengers, Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage, Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety, Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge, and Silver Surfer.
The collection does not just include one version of each title. In many cases, players will get multiple console and arcade versions of the same game. This means fans can experience the differences between arcade, NES, SNES, Genesis, and handheld releases in one package.
Limited Run Games is also adding several modern features. Players will get rewind support and save states, making it easier to complete some of the more difficult classics. There will be display options such as CRT and scanline filters for those who want a retro look. The X-Men arcade title will support rollback netcode for smoother online multiplayer.
The collection will also include a digital archive with scans of original box art, manuals, and vintage advertisements. A built-in music player will allow users to listen to classic soundtracks from each game. Cheat menus and a museum section are also part of the package.
