Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate Studio have confirmed that Valheim is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. The Viking-themed survival game will launch on the new Nintendo platform alongside its previously announced PlayStation 5 version.
Valheim originally launched in Early Access on PC in February 2021. It later expanded to Xbox Series and Xbox One in March 2023. Since its debut, the game has grown into one of the most successful survival titles in recent years.
The Switch 2 version was announced during the latest Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase. It will support full cross-play across platforms, allowing players on different systems to explore and survive together. The game will also take advantage of Switch 2 features, including touchscreen support for menus, HD Rumble 2 for more detailed vibrations, and gyroscope aiming.
Valheim is a survival and exploration game designed for one to ten players. It is set in a procedurally generated world inspired by Viking mythology. Players are tasked with exploring dangerous biomes, building shelters, crafting weapons, and battling powerful enemies as they attempt to carve out their legacy in the tenth realm.
Since entering Early Access, Valheim has received strong praise from players. The game holds a Very Positive rating on Steam, with more than 524,000 positive reviews. It has also sold over 12 million copies worldwide, making it a major success for the Sweden-based indie studio Iron Gate.
The developers have continued to expand the game with regular updates. Valheim has received three major content updates and several smaller ones, adding new biomes, enemies, weapons, armor, and building options. At launch on Switch 2 and PS5, the game will include eight fully developed biomes. These include Mistlands, Ashlands, and the mysterious Deep North.
