India’s PC market just delivered its strongest quarter ever. According to IDC, the traditional PC market grew 10.1% year-on-year in Q3 2025, reaching 4.9 million shipments, beating last year’s previous record of 4.5 million. This shows that India’s demand for PCs is not slowing down. In fact, it is changing fast.

Every major category posted growth:

  • Notebooks: +9.5% YoY
  • Desktops: +11.6% YoY
  • Workstations: +14.2% YoY

Workstations are growing in double digits. This points to rising demand for high-end machines in design, engineering, and enterprise workloads. Premium notebooks (above $1,000) also grew 8.5% YoY, driven by users wanting better build quality, more power, and future-ready features.

However, the biggest highlight of the quarter was the rise of AI-powered notebooks. AI notebook shipments surged by 126.5 percent compared to last year. Basic AI notebooks made up 85.9 percent of all AI PCs. It shows that brands are pushing AI-first features even in their mainstream laptops. The market also crossed 100,000 next-gen AI PCs for the first time in a single quarter. This indicates that AI is no longer a premium concept. It is becoming a part of the purchase decision, and buyers now expect their new laptops to be future-ready.

A large part of the demand was driven by the consumer segment, which shipped 2.8 million units. This is the highest ever. The early start of festive sales, combined with heavy discounts from online retailers, played a major role. Many consumers postponed their purchases to wait for festival offers, instead of buying earlier in the year during school and college admissions. Online channels shipped almost 1 million notebooks, the highest in any quarter. This shows how strongly e-commerce is influencing India’s PC market.

The commercial segment also posted healthy growth. Shipments were up by 11.4 percent year-on-year. Enterprises continued their upgrade cycles, especially in sectors where older systems were due for replacement. However, small and medium businesses showed even stronger momentum. SMB shipments grew by 18.8 percent, while small businesses alone recorded a 13.1 percent increase. This demand reflects India’s ongoing digital transformation, as more companies rely on PCs for everyday operations and online workflows.

In terms of market share, HP retained its position at the top with a 26.6 percent share. The brand performed extremely well in the commercial category with 34.6 percent share. However, its consumer shipments fell by 10.4 percent. The company is currently transitioning from its popular Pavilion branding to the new OmniBook series, and this shift may be affecting its consumer presence.

Lenovo maintained the second spot with an 18 percent market share. The company did well in both consumer and commercial categories, growing 14 percent in each. Lenovo also saw strong adoption in the small office segment, where its shipments grew by an impressive 46.9 percent. This is one of the reasons the brand continues to maintain a solid footprint across different price ranges.

Acer Group followed with 15 percent share. Acer benefited from strong entry-level notebook sales online and dominated the commercial desktop category with a 33.1 percent share. Its focus on government and enterprise orders helped maintain its position.

Dell came next with 14.6 percent share. The brand finally saw improvement in its consumer business after several slow quarters, achieving a 10.3 percent share. On the commercial side, Dell recorded 6.9 percent year-on-year growth, which kept its market stable.

ASUS closed the top five with a 10.2 percent share. The company’s strength continues to be the consumer market, where it achieved a 15.9 percent share, second only to HP. ASUS also performed well in the SMB segment and crossed 64,000 shipments in commercial units.

Overall, Q3 2025 shows how fast the Indian PC market is changing. AI PCs are moving from niche to mainstream. Online sales are becoming the preferred buying method for many users. SMBs are also investing in better hardware due to increased digital activity. The festive season pushed demand, but the bigger shift is long-term: buyers now want machines that can handle modern workloads and AI-driven features.

Looking ahead, the market is expected to remain strong in Q4 as festive demand continues. With new AI-first laptops launching globally, India will likely see further growth in early 2026. The brands that adapt fastest to the AI transition will lead the next wave of competition.
