Epic Games has added one of the most requested features to its PC store: the ability to gift games to friends. This may sound like a simple feature, but users have been asking for it since the store launched in 2018.
In its announcement, Epic said that gifting is now live on the Epic Games Store. You can open any game page, choose the new Gift option, pick a friend from your Epic friends list, and send the game instantly. You can even schedule the gift for later, which feels useful for birthdays, holidays, or small surprises.
This addition feels long overdue. Almost every major game store already supports gifting, including Steam. Many players often buy games during sales, or send titles to friends to play together. Until now, Epic users simply did not have that option. So this update brings the store one step closer to the features people expect from a modern PC platform.
Epic has added some checks to avoid problems. The recipient has to accept the gift for it to be added to their library. If they already own the game, decline it, or do not accept it within 14 days, the buyer will get a refund automatically. This is simple and fair.
There is one major limitation. Cross-regional gifting is not allowed at the moment. So you can only gift games to friends who are in the same region as you. Epic says it is working on adding regional gifting in the future, but there is no timeline yet. It would be good to see this feature soon, because many players have friends in other countries, especially in global online communities.
Epic also confirmed that gifting is only available on the PC version of the store. The recently launched mobile Epic Games Store does not support it yet.
