Users who continue using older versions will be able to chat temporarily, but only for three days. During this transition period, Arattai will push everyone to the updated build. After that, E2EE will become a platform-wide requirement.
Group chats will remain unencrypted for now. The company plans to roll out group encryption in the coming weeks, starting with smaller groups. Arattai is also working on encrypted chat backups, expected to arrive in about two weeks.
This is one of the biggest upgrades since the app launched, and Vembu says more features are lined up once this security transition is completed.
For Indian messaging app users, this is a significant moment. Arattai has positioned itself as a privacy-friendly alternative, and adding end-to-end encryption puts it closer to rivals like WhatsApp, Signal, and Telegram’s secret chats. The next few days will be crucial as millions of users update and move to the new secure chat system.
