Perplexity has officially brought its AI-powered Comet browser to India. The launch was confirmed by CEO Aravind Srinivas, who announced that the browser is now available for Windows and macOS users starting September 22. For now, access is limited to Perplexity Pro subscribers, while free-tier users will need to wait.
The Comet browser was first introduced in July 2025 and has been described as a new way to browse the web with artificial intelligence at its core. Alongside the desktop version, the Android app has been listed on Google Play for pre-registration, though the exact release date has not been confirmed. The iOS version is not yet available in India, and there is no timeline for its launch.
The Comet browser is designed to merge web browsing with AI assistance. Instead of just opening multiple tabs and searching manually, users can rely on its built-in AI sidebar to handle tasks. It comes with an AI-powered sidebar assistant, which helps users with queries across multiple tabs. For example, if you are comparing products across e-commerce sites, the assistant can quickly tell you which site delivers the fastest.
Its Agentic AI capabilities go beyond simple answers. The AI can book meetings, convert web pages into emails, send them, or even complete purchases when instructed with text commands. Task Automation handles repetitive or time-consuming tasks like filtering results, formatting content, or gathering insights from large amounts of data. It has AI at the core, which runs on the same models that power Perplexity’s answer engine. It gives users advanced natural language processing directly in their browser.
Right now, Google Chrome is dominating the browser market. So, Perplexity is trying to position Comet as a smarter alternative. While Chrome is known for speed and extensions, Comet’s unique selling point lies in its deep AI integration. By turning the browser into an intelligent assistant that can take actions on behalf of the user, Perplexity is aiming to redefine how people interact with the web.
If these features work as promised, Comet could appeal to professionals, students, and everyday users who want more than just a search bar. However, the challenge will be to attract users away from Chrome’s massive ecosystem of extensions, sync features, and long-standing reliability.
Right now, Comet is only available for Perplexity Pro subscribers using Windows and macOS. Pre-registration begins on Google Play, but the launch date is not confirmed. There is no information about the iOS launch yet.
