vivo has launched the vivo T5 in India as the latest addition to its performance-focused T Series. The new smartphone combines a 144Hz curved AMOLED display, MediaTek’s Dimensity 7500 Turbo chipset and a massive 7,050mAh battery. It also gets IP69 protection, a 50-megapixel Sony main camera with OIS and a slim design.
The vivo T5 starts at ₹34,999 in India, while launch offers bring the effective price of the base variant down to ₹31,499. It will go on sale from September 9 through Flipkart, the vivo India e-store and partner offline retailers.
The vivo T5 measures 164.42 x 75.25 x 7.99mm and weighs 199 grams. Considering the phone packs a 7,050mAh battery, keeping the thickness below 8mm is impressive.
The phone has a curved frame with a narrow-bezel design and an aluminium horizontal camera housing on the back. vivo is offering it in Royal Bronze and Silver Green. The Silver Green version uses an Aurora Liquid Crystal process that creates changing reflections on the rear panel.
The phone also has IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. It is also MIL-STD-810H compliant and supports wet-hand touch input. The IP69 rating is particularly useful here because the T5 is clearly designed for users who may spend long hours gaming or using the phone outdoors.
The vivo T5 has a large 6.83-inch 3D curved AMOLED display with a 2800 x 1260-pixel 1.5K resolution. It supports a 144Hz refresh rate, 449 PPI pixel density and up to 2,000 nits of High Brightness Mode. The display supports HDR10+ and comes with SGS certifications for low blue light, low flicker and sunlight legibility. vivo has also included Eye Protection Mode, Sleep Comfort Mode and Anti-Fatigue Brightness Adjustment.
High refresh rate AMOLED panels are now common in this segment, but 144Hz still gives the T5 an advantage, especially for gaming. The curved panel and high screen-to-body ratio also help the phone look more premium than its price suggests.
Audio comes from symmetrical dual stereo speakers. vivo has used its VEQ algorithm to improve bass at lower volume levels.
The phone is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7500 Turbo processor. It is a 4nm octa-core chipset clocked at up to 2.6GHz and paired with a Mali-G615 MC2 GPU. vivo claims the T5 can score more than 1.2 million points on AnTuTu. The company has also paid attention to thermal management, which is important for a phone that is being marketed around performance.
The T5 has a 3,800mm² vapor chamber, a total heat dissipation area of 23,062mm² and 10 temperature sensors for real-time thermal monitoring.
A high benchmark score is not particularly useful if the phone cannot maintain performance during long gaming sessions. The cooling system is therefore more interesting than the claimed AnTuTu number. It should help the Dimensity 7500 Turbo maintain performance for longer, although real-world gaming tests will tell us how effective it is.
The chipset also includes an NPU for on-device AI processing. vivo says the phone can run a 3-billion-parameter language model at around 10 tokens per second, allowing some AI tasks to be handled directly on the device.
The vivo T5 runs Android 16 with OriginOS 6. vivo promises three Android version upgrades and five years of security updates. The software includes features such as Circle to Search 2.0, AI Transcript Assist, vivo Office Kit for PC mirroring and private workspace partitions.
Five years of security updates is good to see, although three Android upgrades are now fairly standard in this price range. Longer Android support would have made the T5 more attractive for buyers who plan to keep the phone for several years.
The vivo T5 has a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture and OIS. It is paired with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera with a 115-degree field of view. The front camera has a 32-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.
The main and front cameras can record 4K video, while the rear camera uses OIS and EIS for stabilisation. The camera software also includes 1x, 1.5x and 2x portrait modes, Bokeh Flare effects and AI Erase 2.0.
The Sony IMX882 and OIS should make the main camera capable, particularly in low-light conditions. However, the 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera looks less impressive for a smartphone that reaches close to ₹50,000 in its highest configuration. vivo is clearly putting more emphasis on the primary camera rather than offering a highly versatile camera setup.
The smartphone packs a 7,050mAh battery. The vivo T5 supports 44W FlashCharge, and vivo claims it can reach 44% charge in 30 minutes from empty. The battery is rated for up to 1,600 charge-discharge cycles while retaining at least 80% of its effective capacity.
vivo has also added Battery Life Extender, which prioritises basic connectivity when the battery reaches critical levels. Global Bypass Charging can supply power directly to the phone’s components when the battery is above 20%, reducing heat during demanding tasks such as gaming.
The vivo T5 is available in four configurations in India:
• 6GB + 128GB: ₹34,999, with an effective launch price of ₹31,499
• 8GB + 128GB: ₹39,999, with an effective launch price of ₹35,999
• 8GB + 256GB: ₹44,999, with an effective launch price of ₹40,999
• 12GB + 256GB: ₹49,999, with an effective launch price of ₹45,999
The effective launch prices include eligible card discounts. Buyers can get ₹3,500 off the base variant and ₹4,000 off the higher configurations using HDFC, SBI and Axis Bank cards. Six-month no-cost EMI options are also available on applicable transactions.
The base variant looks like the most interesting option in the lineup. At an effective ₹31,499, it gets the same display, processor, cameras and battery as the more expensive models. The 8GB + 256GB variant makes more sense for buyers who need additional storage.
The 12GB + 256GB model is harder to recommend purely on specifications at ₹49,999. At that price, the T5 enters a much more competitive segment where buyers can find phones with faster charging, more powerful processors or better camera systems.
