POCO has launched the POCO X8 Power 5G in India. The new smartphone is aimed at users who want a large display, strong performance and, most importantly, a very large battery. Its 10,000mAh battery is the biggest highlight, while the phone also brings a 1.5K AMOLED display, IP69K protection and up to six years of software support.
The POCO X8 Power 5G sits in the upper mid-range segment and focuses heavily on endurance and durability.
The POCO X8 Power 5G features a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 2772 x 1280-pixel resolution. The panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate and offers up to 3,200 nits of peak brightness. It also supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. The display has a 240Hz touch sampling rate, while the instantaneous touch sampling rate can reach 3,200Hz. There is also 3840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming for brightness control.
POCO has used Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for protection. The phone also supports Wet Touch Technology 2.0, which is designed to keep touch input working when the screen has water, sweat, oil or foam on it.
The phone measures 163.44 x 78.27 x 8.65mm and weighs 229 grams. It comes in Yellow and Black colour options.
Durability is another major focus. The POCO X8 Power 5G has IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings. This gives it protection against dust and different levels of water exposure, including high-pressure and high-temperature water jets.
The POCO X8 Power 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 Mobile Platform. It is a 4nm octa-core chipset with clock speeds of up to 2.6GHz and an Adreno 812 GPU. The phone comes with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM. POCO also supports dynamic memory expansion, allowing the phone to use additional storage as virtual RAM. The company says it can offer up to 16GB of combined RAM.
There are two storage options, with 128GB using UFS 2.2 storage and 256GB using faster UFS 4.1 storage.
The combination of the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, LPDDR5X RAM and a 120Hz AMOLED display should make the phone suitable for everyday use and gaming. However, actual gaming performance, sustained performance and thermal behaviour will need to be tested before making any strong claims about its performance.
The smartphone has a dual-camera setup on the rear. It includes a 50-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.5 aperture and optical image stabilisation. It is paired with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 aperture. The rear camera can record video at up to 4K at 30fps. On the front, there is a 32-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture. It also supports 4K video recording.
POCO is also promoting features such as AI Glare Removal and AI Erase Pro. Other camera features include portrait processing and dual-video recording.
Since camera quality depends heavily on image processing, the specifications alone do not tell us how the X8 Power 5G will perform in real-world photography. That will need to be assessed in a camera test.
The POCO X8 Power 5G runs Android 16 with Xiaomi HyperOS 3. POCO has promised four years of OS updates and six years of security updates. The company is also claiming a six-year like-new software performance guarantee. The phone includes Xiaomi HyperAI features, Circle to Search with Google and Google Gemini integration.
For audio, the phone has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. POCO also claims a 400% volume boost mode. Other features include an in-display fingerprint sensor, an infrared sensor, dual-SIM support, 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 6.0 and USB Type-C 2.0. There is no traditional 3.5mm headphone jack, with audio handled through USB Type-C.
The biggest selling point of the POCO X8 Power 5G is its 10,000mAh silicon-carbon battery. POCO says the battery uses 16% silicon content. The phone supports 100W HyperCharge fast charging. POCO claims that around 20 minutes of charging can provide enough power for a full day of standard use.
It also supports wired reverse charging. The launch information mentions 27W reverse charging, while the detailed specifications list 22.5W reverse charging. POCO’s final retail specifications should clarify this difference.
The battery is also rated for long-term durability. According to POCO, it has received a TÜV SÜD 5-star Battery Performance certification and can retain at least 80% of its capacity after 1,600 charge cycles. The company equates this to around six years of typical daily use.
A 10,000mAh battery will naturally make the phone heavier than many competing smartphones, but on paper, this is one of the most interesting aspects of the X8 Power 5G. For users who spend a lot of time gaming, watching videos or using mobile data, the large battery could be a major advantage.
POCO X8 Power 5G price in India and availability
The POCO X8 Power 5G is priced at Rs. 35,999 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model. The 8GB + 256GB version costs Rs. 38,999.
The phone will go on sale through Flipkart from September 11 at 12 PM.
As part of the launch offers, buyers can get a Rs. 2,000 coupon discount and a Rs. 1,000 bank or exchange bonus. No-cost EMI starts at Rs. 2,750 per month for 12 months.
The POCO X8 Power 5G looks like a phone built around endurance rather than chasing the thinnest design or the most aggressive camera hardware. The 10,000mAh battery, 100W charging, 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED display and extensive durability ratings make it quite different from many phones in this price range.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is positioned below the flagship Snapdragon 8 series, so buyers should not expect flagship-level performance. But the hardware combination appears well suited to users who prioritise battery life, media consumption and everyday performance.
The biggest questions will be battery endurance in real-world use, charging time, gaming performance and camera quality. Those are areas where the specification sheet cannot tell the complete story. Based purely on the announced hardware, however, the POCO X8 Power 5G looks particularly interesting for buyers who want maximum battery capacity without moving into a much larger tablet-like device.
