Motorola has launched the new Edge 70 Plus at IFA 2026 in Berlin. The new smartphone brings a massive battery, a 200MP main camera and a 144Hz AMOLED display.
The Edge 70 Plus looks like a major upgrade over the regular Edge 70. However, Motorola has also made a few surprising choices with the processor, charging speed and camera setup.
The Edge 70 Plus features a 6.78-inch quad-curved AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. The panel has a 2772 x 1272 resolution and supports HDR10 and HDR10+. Motorola also says the display is Pantone Validated for improved colour accuracy. The display can reach up to 5,200 nits of peak brightness.
The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i. The phone also comes with MIL-STD-810H certification for added durability.
Motorola will sell the Edge 70 Plus in four colours, including Mountain View, Gray Lilac, Milky Blue and Sage. The finishes vary between silk-inspired, acetate and leather-inspired designs.
The Edge 70 Plus is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, paired with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Storage options include 128GB and 256GB. It is important to note that the regular Edge 70 uses the newer Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 and can be configured with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. This means the Edge 70 Plus is not necessarily the more powerful model despite its name.
Motorola has added a vapor chamber cooling system to help keep temperatures under control during gaming and other demanding tasks.
The Edge 70 Plus comes with a 200MP primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS). Motorola is using pixel binning to combine multiple pixels and produce 12.5MP photos. The camera also offers up to 10x Super Zoom and can record videos in 4K. The rear camera setup also includes a dedicated macro camera. For selfies and video calls, there is a 32MP front camera.
However, the phone does not have an ultrawide camera. This is an interesting decision because the regular Edge 70 has a 50MP ultrawide camera.
The Edge 70 Plus packs a 6,500mAh battery, which is significantly larger than the 4,800mAh battery inside the regular Edge 70. Motorola claims the phone can deliver up to 42 hours of calling, 34 hours of video streaming and 23 hours of social media use on a single charge. These figures are based on Motorola’s own testing.
The phone supports 45W fast charging. Interestingly, this is slower than the 68W charging available on the regular Edge 70.
Motorola has also included bypass charging for gamers. When enabled, the phone can take power directly from the charger instead of continuously charging the battery. This can help reduce heat during long gaming sessions.
The Edge 70 Plus will launch in select markets across Europe and the Middle East in the coming weeks. Motorola has not yet announced pricing for all markets.
