Microsoft has started rolling out its August update for Xbox consoles. The update brings several useful changes, including new game hubs for backwards-compatible Xbox 360 games, improved achievement details, console-side cloud save restoration and a much larger wishlist limit.
The update brings Xbox system build 10.0.26100.9426 and is rolling out now.
Xbox 360 games now have game hubs directly on their game cards. When you open the game card for an installed Xbox 360 title, you can quickly check achievement progress, captures and other game information.
Microsoft has also improved the symbols used to show cloud save sync status in these game hubs, making it easier to understand whether your saves are synced.
The update adds detailed achievement popups when viewing the achievement list for Xbox 360 games from your profile.
Microsoft has also added Windows Phone games to achievement history, giving players a more complete view of their older Xbox achievements.
Xbox users can now start playing a supported game through cloud gaming while its console update is downloading.
If a game needs an update and is available to stream through a Game Pass membership, you can launch it through cloud gaming and let the console download the update in the background. The game card will also show an option to launch through cloud gaming while the game is installing or updating.
This could be useful when players want to start playing immediately instead of waiting for a large update to finish.
The update also adds a way to restore previously synced cloud saves directly from the console. For supported games, players can browse available cloud save versions, restore an earlier save and manage saved data without leaving the Xbox interface.
The feature currently supports Forza Horizon 6, where it can be accessed through:
Manage game & add-ons > Saved data > Restore saved data
Microsoft says support for more games will be added in future updates.
The wishlist is also getting a major upgrade. Players can now add both released and upcoming games directly from their game cards. The maximum wishlist size has also increased to 1,000 games, giving players much more room to track games they want to play or buy later.
The August update also adds subscription badges to the Manage Installation page. These badges indicate when a game or add-on is available through a subscription.
Microsoft has also fixed a crash that could occur while scrolling through pages in My games & apps, an issue involving Chinese characters in the on-screen keyboard when using the Canadian French locale, along with other stability and performance problems.
The Xbox August update is rolling out now. Players can check for the update under Settings > System > Updates.
