Ubisoft has announced Rainbow Six Tactics, a new single-player game that takes the operators, gadgets and tactical gameplay of Rainbow Six Siege and moves them into a turn-based strategy format.
Developed by Ubisoft Paris, the game is planned for 2027 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Ubisoft has not announced a specific release date yet.
Players will take the role of Six, the commander of Rainbow. Instead of controlling one operator directly, they will manage the team from its headquarters, review intelligence, upgrade the base and decide how to approach each mission.
Rainbow Six Tactics will feature 15 operators from Rainbow Six Siege, with up to four operators available in each mission. Their individual abilities, gadgets and skill trees will determine how players build their squad.
Missions will include objectives such as hostage rescue, bomb disposal and target elimination. Ubisoft says there will be dozens of mission types, giving players different tactical situations to deal with.
Combat will be turn-based, with players using operator abilities, reconnaissance tools and gadgets to deal with enemies. The environments will also be destructible, which could allow players to create new approaches instead of simply following fixed routes.
The closest comparison is XCOM 2. Both games focus on squad management, turn-based combat, character progression and careful planning rather than fast shooting.
Gears Tactics is another useful comparison, while Star Wars Zero Company is perhaps the most relevant upcoming game. Like Rainbow Six Tactics, it takes an established action franchise and adapts it into an XCOM-style tactical experience. The difference is the Rainbow Six setting. Reconnaissance, breaching, gadgets and destructible environments are already central to the franchise, so the turn-based format could work particularly well.
Ubisoft will also run a closed test before launch. Rainbow Six Tactics is currently scheduled to release sometime in 2027 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
