POCO has launched the new M8x 5G in India. The smartphone is aimed at buyers looking for long battery life and strong everyday performance without moving into the premium price segment. It is also the first smartphone in India to use Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 Mobile Platform.

The POCO M8x 5G starts at Rs. 20,999 and comes with a large 7,900mAh battery, a 6.9-inch 120Hz display, a 50-megapixel main camera and up to 6GB of RAM. It also runs Android 16 with Xiaomi HyperOS 3 and is promised four generations of Android OS updates and six years of security updates.

The M8x 5G features a large 6.9-inch HD+ LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The screen has a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.

POCO has also included TÜV Rheinland certifications for low blue light, circadian-friendly display output and flicker-free viewing.

The device packs a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset. It is built on a 4nm process and has two Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.4GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2GHz. The chipset is paired with an Adreno 613 GPU, LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage.

POCO claims the new chipset can deliver up to 43% faster app launches. The phone is available with 4GB or 6GB of physical RAM, while the 6GB model can use up to 6GB of virtual RAM.

The company has also focused on thermal management. The M8x 5G uses a Triple Cooling System with a 12,439mm² graphite sheet, a 1,924mm² copper foil layer and 3.5W thermal gel. This should help the phone maintain performance during longer gaming sessions and other demanding workloads.

The POCO M8x 5G runs Android 16 with Xiaomi HyperOS 3. It includes features such as Hyper Island dynamic notifications, Circle to Search and Gemini, along with Xiaomi’s cross-device ecosystem features.

POCO is promising four generations of Android OS updates and six years of security updates. This is an important commitment for a phone in this price range, as longer software support can make a budget or mid-range phone more useful for several years.

The rear camera setup includes a 50-megapixel AI main camera with an f/1.8 aperture. It supports 2x in-sensor zoom and up to 1080p video recording. An auxiliary sensor and LED flash are also included. For selfies and video calls, there is an 8-megapixel front camera with an f/2.0 aperture. It can also record video at up to 1080p.

For audio, the phone gets stereo speakers with Hi-Res Audio support and a 300% Ultra Volume mode. It also retains a 3.5mm headphone jack. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, an infrared sensor, microSD card support, dual SIM connectivity, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance.

It packs a 7,900mAh battery, which is considerably larger than what is commonly found in this segment. POCO claims the phone can last up to three days under typical usage. It supports 45W fast charging, with the company claiming that around a day’s worth of charge can be added in 30 minutes.

The phone also supports 22.5W reverse wired charging, allowing users to charge other devices using the M8x 5G.

The phone measures 170.12 x 78.43 x 8.8mm and weighs 232 grams. The large battery also makes it noticeably heavier than many conventional smartphones in this segment.

POCO M8x 5G price and availability in India

The POCO M8x 5G is priced at Rs. 20,999 for the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. The 6GB RAM and 128GB storage model costs Rs. 22,999.

It will be available through Flipkart from August 27. The phone comes in Green with a vegan leather back, along with Cobalt Blue and Black colour options.

POCO is also offering a Rs. 2,000 coupon on the first day of sale. This brings the effective starting price down to Rs. 18,999 for eligible buyers.
