Apple may have just revealed its next major iPhone lineup through its own software. The fifth developer beta of iOS 27 contains references to six unreleased iPhone models, according to findings first reported by Macworld. The references were found in system files related to battery drivers and Apple’s Battery Intelligence features.

The code does not reveal specifications or confirm Apple’s final product names. However, the internal identifiers match models that have already appeared in previous reports, which makes the discovery one of the clearest signs yet of Apple’s upcoming iPhone plans.

The six references are:

Internal identifierExpected model
V62iPhone Air 2
V63iPhone 18 Pro
V64iPhone 18 Pro Max
V67iPhone 18
V68iPhone Ultra
V69iPhone 18e

Apple has not officially announced any of these devices.

The V68 identifier is linked to the rumored iPhone Ultra, which is expected to be Apple’s first foldable iPhone.

The latest discovery is notable because previous iOS 27 betas have already contained clues that appear to prepare the operating system for hardware that does not exist in Apple’s current iPhone lineup.

The fourth iOS 27 beta, for example, included references to multiple batteries inside an iPhone. Current iPhones use a single battery, so the wording immediately attracted attention. Foldable phones commonly use multiple battery cells because the battery has to be divided between different sections of the device.

Earlier iOS 27 code has also included references related to foldable displays. Together with the new model identifier, those discoveries strengthen the case that Apple is preparing iOS for a foldable iPhone.

That does not mean every rumored detail about the device is confirmed. The code only shows that Apple is preparing software for hardware associated with the identifier.

The discovery also supports reports that Apple is preparing a different release schedule for the iPhone 18 generation. Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September, alongside the new foldable iPhone Ultra. The regular iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone Air are reportedly being pushed to early 2027.

This would be a major change from Apple’s usual approach of launching its main iPhone lineup together in September. Under the reported schedule, Apple’s September event would become more focused on its premium models. The more affordable and standard models would arrive several months later.

The iOS 27 code itself does not confirm those launch dates. They come from previous reports and supply chain information. What the software does confirm is that Apple is actively preparing for all six devices.
