Google has launched the Pixel Watch 5 in India alongside the Pixel 11 series. The company’s latest smartwatch comes in 41mm and 45mm sizes and runs Wear OS 7.
Both versions of the Pixel Watch 5 feature a 3,000-nit Actua 360 AMOLED LTPO display with 320ppi resolution and DCI-P3 color support. The display supports a 1-60Hz refresh rate and an always-on display.
The watch uses custom 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and has a 100% recycled aluminium housing. It also comes with the second-generation HNBR Active Band with a soft-touch coating.
The 41mm model measures 41mm in diameter and is 12.3mm thick. It weighs 31g without the band. The 45mm model is 45mm in diameter, has the same 12.3mm height and weighs 36.7g without the band.
Google offers the Pixel Watch 5 in Fog, Olive and Canyon colours, with Canyon available exclusively on the 41mm model. There is also a Stephen Curry Special Edition in the 45mm size with a sweat-wicking performance loop band.
The watch adds two new watch faces, generative watch faces and 11 new glanceable complication styles.
Google is putting more focus on Gemini with the Pixel Watch 5. The watch supports Raise to Talk, which lets users access Gemini by lifting their wrist. Gemini can be used for tasks such as starting a workout, setting a timer or finding dinner reservations from Gmail.
Some core actions are processed on the device, which allows them to work with low latency and even offline.
The watch also gets Gemini Intelligence Proactive Suggestions. It can use information from apps such as Calendar to surface relevant information without requiring the user to manually search for it.
Google’s At a Glance feature can also show contextual information on the watch face. For example, it can display a boarding pass when the user arrives at an airport or show the remaining stops during a commute.
Users can select, confirm and send suggestions using a double-pinch gesture.
The Pixel Watch 5 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor with a Cortex-M55 co-processor. Google says the new watch has 50% more RAM and a 12% CPU improvement, making it 20% faster than the previous generation.
It runs Wear OS 7 and comes with 64GB of eMMC storage.
The Pixel Watch 5 is compatible with phones running Android 12 or newer and requires a Google Account and the Google Pixel Watch app.
The Pixel Watch 5 comes with dual-frequency GPS and supports GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou and QZSS. Google says its new GPS system can deliver twice the route-tracking accuracy of the previous generation in challenging environments.
The watch uses 3D building models and weather reference stations to improve satellite positioning in difficult conditions.
Google is also adding new fitness and sleep features. Strength Training will provide step-by-step guidance, including sets, rest periods, weight and rep logging. Google Health Coach will offer customised strength workouts, while users can create their own strength routines through the Google Health app.
The watch can also provide recovery recommendations based on sleep and heart rate variability. Google claims up to 15% better sleep-stage detection.
Other sleep features include bedtime automations, a dedicated bedtime watch face and Smart Wake, which uses heart rate and movement during the 30 minutes before an alarm to determine when to wake the user.
One of the more notable health features is Breathing Emergency Detection. The feature uses the watch’s PPG, accelerometer and barometer sensors along with on-device AI to monitor for severe and persistent drops in oxygen saturation.
If the watch detects an emergency and the wearer is unresponsive, it can automatically call emergency services and share the user’s location.
Google says the feature will initially launch in Europe.
The Pixel Watch 5 also includes Loss of Pulse Detection, satellite communications, irregular heart rate notifications, high and low heart rate alerts, ECG, blood pressure trend summaries and sleep breathing quality trend summaries.
Google is also adding insulin resistance trend summaries. These monthly summaries are powered by its Health Foundation Models, which were trained using billions of minutes of sensor data from opted-in users and validated against clinical measurements.
The Pixel Watch 5 offers significantly different battery life depending on the size.
The 41mm model has a 332mAh battery and is rated for up to 30 hours with the always-on display enabled. Battery Saver mode extends this to up to 48 hours.
The 45mm model has a larger 465mAh battery and offers up to 40 hours with the always-on display and up to 72 hours in Battery Saver mode.
Google says both models can reach 50% charge in around 15 minutes.
The 41mm model takes around 25 minutes to reach 80% and 45 minutes to reach a full charge. The 45mm model takes around 30 minutes to reach 80% and 60 minutes for a full charge.
The Pixel Watch 5 supports Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi, NFC and Ultra-Wideband. It also has dual-frequency GPS and a built-in microphone and speaker. The watch has 5 ATM water resistance and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
Other features include a side button, haptic crown, Gen 3 Premium haptics and touchless one-handed gestures.
Both sizes have 64GB of storage and a one-year warranty.
