Sony has quietly increased the price of the PlayStation 5 in India. The standard PS5 with a disc drive now costs Rs. 69,990, up from its earlier price of Rs. 54,990. This is a massive Rs. 15,000 price hike.
The revised price is now reflected on Sony’s official ShopAtSC website. At the time of writing, the console is listed as out of stock.
Interestingly, the PS5 Digital Edition is still listed at Rs. 49,990. Sony has not announced any price change for this model yet, but it remains to be seen if it will also receive a price hike in the coming weeks.
This is not the first time Sony has increased PS5 prices. Over the past year, the company has revised console prices in several global markets, including the US, UK, Japan, Europe, Australia, and multiple Southeast Asian countries. Sony has cited the challenging global economic environment as the reason behind these price increases.
India had largely escaped those global revisions until now. Last year, Sony only increased the price of the PS5 Digital Edition in India from Rs. 44,990 to Rs. 49,990, while the standard model continued to sell at Rs. 54,990. That has finally changed with the latest price revision.
The gaming industry has been facing rising hardware costs over the past year. Growing demand for memory and storage chips from AI companies has affected the supply chain, pushing up the cost of several components. As a result, prices of gaming PCs, graphics cards, handheld consoles, and gaming consoles have increased across many markets.

The latest PS5 price hike, however, is difficult to ignore. A starting price of nearly Rs. 70,000 puts the standard PS5 out of reach for many buyers in India. At this price, many gamers may prefer waiting for festive season offers or consider buying the PS5 Digital Edition instead.
What makes the increase even harder to accept is that the PS5 is no longer a new console. It launched nearly six years ago, and traditionally, console prices either remain stable or become more affordable as they age. Seeing such a significant price increase at this stage of the console’s lifecycle is unusual.
