GSC Game World has officially confirmed that the first major expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will launch on August 20, 2026. Called Cost of Hope, the paid DLC will bring a new story, new locations, and several hours of additional gameplay. The announcement was made with a new story trailer released by the studio.
The expansion continues the story of Skif, the main protagonist of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. This time, players will be caught in the growing conflict between the Duty and Freedom factions. As the story unfolds, players will make choices that shape their journey through the Zone.
Players will be able to explore the long-awaited Iron Forest and the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, areas that have remained inaccessible until now. These locations will include new hubs, missions, side activities, secrets, enemies, and fresh weapons to discover.
The DLC will launch alongside the free Update 2.0 for all owners of the base game. While GSC Game World has not shared the full changelog yet, the update is expected to include gameplay improvements, bug fixes, balancing changes, and other enhancements to improve the overall experience. More details about the update will be revealed closer to launch.
Cost of Hope is the first major story expansion planned for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. GSC Game World had previously confirmed that the DLC would offer dozens of hours of gameplay, making it a significant addition rather than a small content pack.
The announcement is good news for fans who have been waiting for new content since the game’s launch. Along with the new campaign, the free Update 2.0 should also make the base game more polished for both new and returning players.
