Developer SHIFT UP has officially announced Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, the next game in the Stellar Blade franchise. The reveal took place during Summer Game Fest, where the studio debuted the game’s first trailer and confirmed that development is underway.
While the announcement is exciting for fans of the original game, there is one catch. SHIFT UP has not shared a release date yet. The studio says the project is still in early development, so players may have to wait a while before getting their hands on the sequel.
Stellar Blade: Blood Rain continues the story in the same universe as the original Stellar Blade, but this time players will follow a new protagonist named Evie. According to SHIFT UP, the sequel picks up after the events of the first game and aims to expand the world in a bold new direction.
The brief trailer did not reveal much about the story, but it showcased the series’ signature visual style and hinted at darker themes. Fans also got a glimpse of new environments and characters, though gameplay footage was not shown.
SHIFT UP says the original development team is once again leading the project. The studio plans to build upon the stylish action combat, world-building, and gameplay systems that helped the first game become a commercial and critical success.
The announcement does not come as a surprise. The original Stellar Blade performed well for SHIFT UP and quickly built a dedicated fanbase thanks to its fast-paced combat, impressive visuals, and memorable character designs. The recent PC release also helped introduce the franchise to a wider audience.
