Publisher Deep Silver and developer 4A Games have announced that METRO 2039 will launch in February 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store.
The announcement comes just months after the game’s reveal. METRO 2039 was first announced on April 13 and received its full reveal during the Xbox Games Showcase on April 17. The game has already generated significant interest among fans, reaching over one million wishlists within just two weeks of its reveal.
Alongside the release window announcement, 4A Games has released a new trailer called The Hunter Trailer. The footage offers a closer look at the game’s stealth-focused gameplay, exploration, and survival mechanics that have defined the Metro series for years.
The trailer showcases both the underground tunnels and dangerous surface areas players will explore throughout the game. It also introduces a new stealth weapon called the Shatun, along with a breaching charge that can be used to access new areas and tackle enemies in different ways.
Story details revealed in the trailer suggest that METRO 2039 will take the series in a darker direction. The Metro is now under the control of a powerful regime led by Hunter, the legendary Spartan Ranger who was once considered one of the greatest protectors of the underground world.
The game’s protagonist, known as The Stranger, views Hunter as a tyrant who has betrayed everything the Spartan Order once stood for. Consumed by anger and a desire for revenge, The Stranger sets out on a mission against the man he believes has become the very enemy the Spartans once fought.
The Metro series has built a strong reputation over the years thanks to its atmospheric world, immersive storytelling, and tense survival gameplay. Titles such as Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light, and Metro Exodus earned critical acclaim and developed a loyal fanbase worldwide.
