SEGA has officially unveiled Crazy Taxi: World Tour, bringing back one of its most iconic arcade franchises after years of silence. The game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC in 2027.

The announcement follows SEGA’s initial teaser in 2023 and marks the franchise’s first major console release in years.

For longtime fans, Crazy Taxi was all about picking up passengers, racing against the clock, performing wild stunts, and earning as much money as possible before time ran out. World Tour keeps that core formula intact while expanding it into a much bigger experience.

This time, players will follow Axel, one of the series’ most recognizable characters, on a globe-trotting adventure after a group of mysterious masked thieves steals his beloved taxi. The story campaign will take players across five cities around the world, each featuring different environments, missions, and challenges.

SEGA says players can expect high-speed driving, massive jumps, drifting, and the over-the-top gameplay that made the original games popular. Alongside traditional passenger pickups, the game will feature side missions, odd jobs, and various objectives spread across large maps.

One of the biggest additions is vehicle customization. Players will be able to unlock different vehicles and personalize them to create their own unique ride.

For fans wondering what the gameplay will be like, Crazy Taxi: World Tour appears to combine the arcade-style driving of the original Crazy Taxi games with elements of modern open-world driving games. Players can expect fast-paced driving similar to Crazy Taxi and The Simpsons: Road Rage, while the larger maps and story-driven structure may feel closer to games like Forza Horizon or The Crew, although with a much stronger arcade focus.

SEGA has also confirmed that the classic Arcade Mode will return. This mode recreates the original experience where players race against the clock to deliver passengers and earn as much money as possible.

The game will feature online multiplayer modes with cross-platform support, allowing players to compete against friends and other players regardless of platform.

The original Crazy Taxi became a fan favorite during the Dreamcast era and remains one of SEGA’s most recognizable arcade franchises. While several ports and mobile versions were released over the years, fans have been waiting decades for a true new entry.

SEGA has not announced an exact release date yet, but Crazy Taxi: World Tour is scheduled to launch in 2027.
