007 First Light has made a strong debut, with developer IO Interactive announcing that the game sold more than 2.7 million copies during its first week on sale.
The game launched on May 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also scheduled to launch later this summer.
The sales milestone gives IO Interactive one of its biggest launches to date and suggests that there is strong demand for a modern single-player James Bond game. The Bond franchise has remained one of the most recognizable entertainment brands in the world, but it has been more than a decade since players received a major original 007 game.
The game’s Steam numbers indicate healthy player engagement. At the time of writing, more than 22,800 players were active in-game, while the title recorded a peak of over 31,000 concurrent players in the past 24 hours. The game’s all-time Steam peak stands at 71,068 players, reached shortly after launch.
The game has also attracted significant attention on Twitch. While current viewership has settled at around 5,500 viewers, the title reached an all-time peak of nearly 270,000 viewers during its launch period. Those numbers suggest strong initial interest from both players and content creators.
While Steam data only represents a portion of the audience, the 2.7 million copies sold in one week indicates that console sales likely accounted for a substantial share of the game’s success.
The strong launch is important because 007 First Light is not based on an existing film. It tells an original Bond story and introduces a younger version of the famous spy.
That makes the performance even more impressive. Many licensed games depend heavily on movie releases for momentum, but 007 First Light appears to have attracted players on the strength of its gameplay, production quality, and the reputation of IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman World of Assassination series.
The early numbers also suggest that the James Bond brand remains highly relevant in gaming. If player engagement remains strong, the game could become the foundation for a long-term Bond gaming franchise.
Alongside the sales announcement, IO Interactive unveiled its Year One content roadmap.
A major focus will be on expanding the game’s Tactical Simulation mode. Players will return to several existing locations through new missions and challenges.
Upcoming content includes a revisit to Kensington’s Workshop area, new scenarios in Slovakia featuring the Aston Martin Valhalla, and additional missions set in Mauritania’s black market.
Players will also return to Vietnam’s luxury resort known as The Pearl, where Bond must eliminate a new threat that has taken over the facility. Another storyline will explore mysterious technology discovered within Webb Industries, potentially setting up a dangerous new adversary.
The roadmap also introduces story-driven content following events in Mauritania. An unexpected alliance between MI6 and Pirate King Bawma will create new missions for Bond.
To support these operations, Q is developing a new gadget called the Even G2 smart glasses. The device is expected to introduce new espionage mechanics and gameplay opportunities.
Throughout the year, players can also expect gadget upgrades, new weapons, leaderboard challenges, cosmetics, additional enemies, intelligence reports, returning vehicles, and fresh gameplay scenarios.
IO Interactive confirmed that it is also exploring a New Game+ mode, one of the most requested features among players looking for additional replayability.
The game’s momentum could receive another boost later this year when it launches on Nintendo Switch 2. The upcoming release will bring the full campaign to Nintendo’s new platform with support for both handheld and docked play.
