Qualcomm has officially announced the new Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 mobile platforms at the Snapdragon for India event. The new chipsets are designed to bring better gaming, smoother UI performance, improved cameras, and longer battery life to mid-range and budget smartphones.
With these new platforms, Qualcomm appears to be focusing heavily on the everyday user experience instead of only benchmark numbers. Both chipsets introduce Snapdragon Smooth Motion UI, which promises faster app launches and reduced screen stutter during daily usage.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 5
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is clearly the more powerful platform of the two. This chipset is built on TSMC’s 4nm process. It uses a CPU setup with four performance cores clocked up to 2.6GHz and four efficiency cores running up to 2GHz. Qualcomm says the platform delivers 20% faster app launches and 18% less screen stutter compared to previous-generation solutions.
It also boasts 21% GPU performance improvement, which should help upcoming phones handle high refresh rate gaming and heavier graphics workloads more comfortably.
Qualcomm is also bringing its Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0 to the Snapdragon 6 series for the first time. The feature is designed to maintain stable frame rates while improving power efficiency during long gaming sessions.
The chipset supports FHD+ displays at up to 144Hz, which means more brands will likely launch gaming-focused mid-range devices using this platform.
Camera capabilities also receive a major upgrade in this SoC. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 supports:
- Up to 200MP photo capture
- Triple 12-bit ISPs
- 4K HDR video recording at 30FPS
- Slow-motion recording at 720p 240FPS
- Advanced noise reduction and HDR processing
It also supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, Dual-Frequency GNSS, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 5.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 brings major upgrades to budget phones
The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 brings surprisingly large upgrades to entry-level and affordable mid-range devices. The chipset uses a newer 4nm architecture with two performance cores clocked up to 2.4GHz and six efficiency cores running up to 2GHz.
Qualcomm claims the platform offers 43% faster app launches, 25% less screen stutter, and 77% improved GPU performance.
That GPU jump is also notable. Qualcomm is now bringing 90FPS gaming support to the Snapdragon 4 lineup for the first time. Popular games like BGMI, Free Fire, and Call of Duty Mobile could benefit from the stronger GPU performance if smartphone brands optimize properly.
Another important addition is Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA) 5G support. It allows users to keep two active network connections simultaneously. This feature is particularly useful in markets like India where many users rely on dual SIM setups for work and personal use.
The chipset also supports FHD+ displays at 144Hz, up to 108MP cameras, UFS 3.1 storage, and Qualcomm Quick Charge 5.
However, there are still some limitations compared to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5. The chipset only supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1.
