Google has announced a new AI-powered image editing app called Google Pics. The app combines generative AI tools with advanced editing features and will integrate directly with Google Workspace apps like Slides and Drive.

Google says the new app is powered by its Nano Banana AI model and includes object segmentation technology. This allows users to select and edit individual parts of an image more precisely. Users can move objects, resize them, or transform them using AI, even in regular non-AI photos.

One of the most interesting features is AI-powered text editing inside images. Users will be able to modify text written inside a photo and even translate it into different languages. According to Google, the app can preserve the original font style and size during translation, which could make editing posters, banners, and social media creatives much easier.

The app targets users who want quick design tools without needing advanced editing software. With integration into Workspace apps, Google Pics could become a strong alternative to platforms like Canva for simple poster design, presentations, and social media content creation.

AI-powered image editing is not entirely new. Companies like Adobe and even smartphone brands already offer similar features. However, Google seems to be focusing heavily on tighter integration with its productivity ecosystem, which could make the experience more seamless for Workspace users.

The app is currently rolling out to a limited group of testers starting today. Google says it will launch globally this summer for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Workspace business users will also get a preview version.
