Google has announced a new shopping feature called Universal Cart that is designed to make online shopping easier across Google services. The new system brings together products added from Google Search, YouTube, Gmail, Shopping, and Gemini into a single shared cart.

Google says Universal Cart uses AI to automatically track prices, monitor stock availability, compare deals, and even warn users about product compatibility issues before checkout.

It aims to offer a smarter and more connected shopping experience powered by agentic AI.

For example, if someone is building a custom gaming PC using parts from multiple online retailers, Universal Cart can detect if certain components are not compatible with each other and alert the user before they place the order.

Google says the AI system can also monitor price trends and help users find cheaper options automatically.

Another major feature is deeper integration with Google Wallet. If users shop using Google Wallet, Universal Cart can identify preferred retailers, loyalty memberships, and available reward programs to help maximize discounts or reward points.

Google says checkout will also become smoother when shopping from stores that support Google Wallet. The company specifically mentioned brands and retailers like Nike, Sephora, Target, Fenty, and Steve Madden.

Universal Cart will start rolling out this summer across Google Shopping, Search, and Gemini. Support for YouTube and Gmail will arrive later this year.

Alongside Universal Cart, Google also announced its new Universal Commerce Protocol.

The company says the protocol uses AI to simplify communication between retailers and payment systems.

Google plans to expand the Universal Commerce Protocol to countries like Canada and Australia in the coming months, with the United Kingdom expected to follow later.

The protocol is also coming to YouTube in the United States as Google continues turning YouTube into a much larger shopping platform.
