Discord is adding a major new gaming perk for Nitro subscribers. The company has started rolling out free Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition access as part of its new Nitro Rewards program. The rollout begins today for eligible users.
The Xbox Game Pass Starter Edition gives access to a library of more than 50 games on PC and console. Some of the popular games included are Fallout 4, Stardew Valley, DayZ, Deep Rock Galactic, Overcooked 2, and Grounded. Microsoft is expected to add more games over time.
The subscription also includes 10 hours of cloud gaming. This allows users to stream supported games on different devices without needing powerful gaming hardware.
Discord is also improving how users discover and launch games. Users will now see a new “Play” button when friends are playing supported Xbox Game Pass titles through Discord activity statuses or streams. This means users can jump directly into games from within Discord itself.
This partnership shows how Microsoft is continuing to expand Xbox beyond consoles. Over the last few years, Microsoft has been pushing Xbox Game Pass across PCs, smart TVs, cloud gaming platforms, and handheld gaming devices. Discord now seems to be becoming another important part of that strategy.
Instead of focusing only on console sales, Microsoft wants Xbox to become a gaming ecosystem available everywhere. The partnership also benefits Discord. Discord Nitro has always offered features like custom emojis, HD streaming, bigger uploads, and profile customization. But many users never felt those features alone were enough to justify paying every month.
Adding Xbox Game Pass makes Nitro much more attractive for gamers. The partnership works both ways. Microsoft says eligible Xbox Game Pass subscribers will soon receive Discord perks as well. These include:
- 250 Discord Orbs every month
- 1.2x bonus Orbs for completed Quests
- Automatic discounts in the Discord Shop
This creates a deeper connection between Xbox and Discord users. The most interesting part is how Discord is slowly turning into more than just a chat app. It is becoming a central place where gamers chat, stream, discover games, and now even launch games directly.
That could become very important in the future as gaming companies focus more on subscriptions and ecosystems instead of only hardware.
For gamers, though, the biggest benefit is simple. Discord Nitro users now get access to more games and extra perks without paying anything additional.
