Multiplayer FPS game Blindfire: Lights Out has officially gone free-to-play. Along with the move, the game has also been renamed from Blindfire to Blindfire: Lights Out.

The game first launched in early access in October 2024. It offered a unique multiplayer FPS experience where players fight in near-total darkness and rely heavily on sound and awareness. While the concept received attention for being different, it was not enough to keep the momentum going. Developer Double Eleven later stopped working on new content for the game.

Now the studio has decided to keep the game alive in a different way.

In a statement shared by the developers, the team confirmed that the servers will remain online indefinitely and the game will stay free for everyone.

The developers said:

“We have decided to make it free to play and keep the servers online indefinitely. We are doing this because we believe games are art and they deserve to be preserved.”

The statement also mentioned that there will not be any aggressive marketing push or advertisements to bring players back. Instead, the team sees this as a way to preserve the game and let players experience what they created.

Alongside the announcement, the latest update for the game also adds two new weapons and an audio aim assist system. The new accessibility-focused feature should help players better track enemies in the game’s dark environments.

While Blindfire may not have become a big hit, Double Eleven’s decision to keep the game alive instead of shutting it down is something many players will appreciate.
