Publisher Red Art Games and developer Pugware have announced that Skautfold: Moonless Knight will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on April 9. The game will be priced at $14.99.
The title is not entirely new. It first launched in Early Access on PC via Steam in December 2019, followed by a full release in March 2020. Now, it is finally making its way to consoles.
Skautfold: Moonless Knight continues the story set in the dark and twisted world of the Skautfold series. You play as Gray, the 2nd Knight, who is sent on a diplomatic mission to Japan. But things go wrong quickly as cultists start a rebellion, putting the Emperor and key allies at risk.
The game mixes political conflict with supernatural horror. The setting feels heavily inspired by Lovecraft-style storytelling, where things are not always what they seem. While the story connects to previous Skautfold games, new players can still jump in without playing earlier titles. However, if you have followed the series, you will get more context and depth.
The game follows a semi-open world structure. You can explore different areas and take on bosses in your own order. This kind of design works well for players who enjoy exploration and backtracking. You unlock shortcuts, find hidden areas, and slowly uncover the story as you progress.
There are also side elements like helping dying soldiers, collecting items, and discovering hidden secrets. These small details add more depth to the gameplay.
The game uses a Guard system where timing matters a lot. Perfect blocks and dodges can turn fights in your favor, while careless moves can quickly put you at a disadvantage. There is also a risk-reward system. Your health and guard are connected, which means mistakes can have a lasting impact during fights. At the same time, you can use special injections to heal or boost your damage.
Skautfold: Moonless Knight falls into the Metroidvania and action RPG genre. If you have played games like Hollow Knight or Blasphemous, you will have a good idea of what to expect in terms of exploration and progression. It also shares some similarities with Salt and Sanctuary. The focus is on learning enemy patterns, managing resources, and improving with each attempt.
Bringing Skautfold: Moonless Knight to consoles makes sense. Games like this usually find a strong audience on platforms like PlayStation and Switch, especially among players who enjoy Metroidvania and action RPG titles.
