Paytm has started rolling out biometric authentication for UPI payments and also enabled cardless ATM withdrawals through its app. The update is now reaching users and adds a new layer of convenience to everyday transactions.
Users can now approve UPI payments using fingerprint or Face ID instead of entering a UPI PIN. The feature also works for checking account balance and authorising ATM withdrawals. For now, biometric payments come with a ₹5,000 per transaction limit, which follows existing safety guidelines.
How to Enable Biometric UPI Payments on Paytm
Open the Paytm app and go to your profile section. From there, head into settings where you will find options like “Pay with Fingerprint” or “Pay with Face ID.” You need to select the bank account for which you want to enable this feature and then verify using your device’s biometric authentication.
Paytm has enabled cash withdrawals from ATMs without a debit card. Users can scan a QR code on supported ATMs, authenticate on the app, and withdraw money. The withdrawal limit depends on bank rules, but it generally goes up to ₹10,000 per transaction.
How to Withdraw Cash Without a Card
Go to an ATM that shows a UPI cash withdrawal or cardless withdrawal option. Select that option on the ATM screen and enter the amount you want to withdraw. The ATM will generate a QR code. Open the Paytm app, scan the QR code, choose your bank account, and approve the transaction using UPI PIN or biometric authentication.
Once verified, the ATM will dispense cash.
Both features are good for users. UPI is already widely used, but entering a PIN every time still adds a small delay. Removing that step makes payments quicker, especially for smaller amounts.
Paytm is trying to make its app more central to everyday financial activity. Competition is already strong. So, adding features like biometric payments and easy ATM access is one way to stay relevant.
It is also important to note that biometric authentication uses authentication, and data stays on your device.
The cardless ATM feature also builds on infrastructure already supported by the National Payments Corporation of India. Some banks have offered similar functionality before, but it has not been widely used. Paytm could help bring it into the mainstream because of its large user base.
