Ubisoft and developer SCREEN JUICE have announced that Morbid Metal will launch in Early Access on April 8 for PC via Steam. The game will be available at a limited-time launch price of $13.49. After the initial period, the price will increase to $17.99. This makes the Early Access launch a good entry point for players who want to try the game early at a lower cost.
Morbid Metal is a hack-and-slash roguelike. That means fast combat, repeated runs, and constant progression. But it also adds an interesting twist. You can shapeshift between characters in real time.
Each character has different abilities and combat styles. You can switch between them mid-fight and create combos. This adds depth to combat and keeps gameplay fresh. The focus is on speed and skill. You fight waves of enemies and take on powerful bosses in short, intense runs.
The Early Access version already includes a decent amount of content. You get three playable characters, each with their own playstyle. There are multiple enemy types and early boss fights to test your skills. The game also includes three different biomes. Each run feels different because of modifiers that change how the game plays.
There are over 60 routines, which act like perks during runs. You also get systems like protocols and corpora, which affect combat and abilities. There are also mid-run events. Some offer rewards, while others involve risk. For example, you can take deals that give you power but come with downsides.
Morbid is for gamers who enjoy fast and skill-based games. If you like roguelikes where each run feels different, this game will appeal to you. It shares some DNA with Hades in terms of fast-paced runs and progression. The combat style may also remind players of Devil May Cry.
The developers have confirmed that a full Early Access roadmap will be revealed on April 17 during the Find Your Next Game Showcase. This means more content is already planned. We can expect new characters, enemies, and gameplay systems over time.
The game is still evolving, and feedback will shape how it evolves.
