Huawei has introduced the Huawei Pura X Max, its foldable phone with a bigger and more refined design. The device builds on the earlier Pura X and brings noticeable upgrades in display size, performance, and durability.
The Pura X Max has a unique design and sits between a flip phone and a traditional book-style foldable.
Huawei has improved both the hinge and overall build quality. The phone now comes with IP58 and IP59 ratings, which means it has better protection against dust and water. The outer display is protected by second-generation Kunlun glass.

Compared to the earlier model, the new device is thinner and slightly heavier. When unfolded, it measures just 5.2mm in thickness. This makes it one of the slimmer foldables in its category.
The phone features a 5.4-inch outer display and a larger 7.7-inch inner screen. Both panels use LTPO 2.0 technology with a 1Hz to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Huawei has also focused on maintaining a consistent aspect ratio across both screens, offering a near square layout for better usability.
Huawei has also added stylus support with the new M-Pen 3 Mini. The stylus is designed specifically for this form factor and works with a dedicated case. It supports gesture controls and can also be used to interact with Huawei’s AI assistant.
The Pura X Max is powered by the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset. Huawei claims it offers around 30 percent better performance compared to the previous generation. It offers up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB storage.
The Huawei Pura X Max runs on HarmonyOS 6.1 out of the box. Huawei has added a new “Max version” of its software with a strong focus on AI and productivity features.
The device introduces Huawei’s upgraded Xiaoyi Smart Brain along with a new companion AI system. This AI is designed to work across daily tasks and also integrate with multiple third-party apps like navigation, ride-hailing, and productivity services. It is meant to make the phone more useful in real-world usage instead of just basic assistant functions.
The phone also includes AI-based tools for writing, organization, and content support. These features are built into the system and work across different apps. Huawei is also pushing deeper AI integration through HarmonyOS 6.1, where the assistant can handle more complex commands and multi-step tasks.
Another key highlight is the “Born to Draw” application, which is designed for creative users. It works closely with the M-Pen 3 Mini stylus and is aimed at sketching, drawing, and note-taking on the large foldable display.
The system also brings better interaction tools like smart assistance for reading and content management. Huawei has designed the software experience to take full advantage of the dual-display foldable format.
The camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor with variable aperture, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 12.5MP ultra-wide camera. Huawei is using its XMAGE imaging system to improve photo quality, along with a new color sensor for better accuracy.
The device also includes dual 8MP front cameras, one on each screen, mainly for video calls.
In terms of connectivity, the Pura X Max includes support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and USB Type-C 3.1. It also supports multiple global navigation systems including GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, and NavIC. The device is expected to support 4G and possibly 5G connectivity, although Huawei has not clearly detailed this for all markets.
Battery capacity is 5,300mAh, which is larger than the previous model. It also supports 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.
The phone will be available in multiple color options, including black, white, blue, gold, and orange.
The Huawei Pura X Max is currently launching in China and will go on sale starting April 25. Pricing starts at CNY 10,999 for the base variant and goes up to CNY 13,999 for the top-end model with 1TB storage.
