The indie simulation game Graveyard Keeper is currently available to download for free across multiple platforms, including Steam, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Store. The offer is live until April 13. So players have a limited window to claim the game at no cost. However, the game is not part of this giveaway on Nintendo Switch platforms.

Graveyard Keeper was first released in 2018 and quickly gained attention for its unusual concept. Instead of farming crops or building a peaceful life, the game puts you in charge of managing a medieval graveyard.

The gameplay revolves around resource management, crafting, and completing quests. You collect materials, maintain graves, and slowly expand your operations. There is also a story running in the background, with characters and choices shaping your progress.

Many players compare it to Stardew Valley because of its structure. But while Stardew Valley focuses on farming and relationships, Graveyard Keeper leans into darker humor and more complex systems.

The game received mixed reviews at launch. It holds a Metascore of 69, with critics pointing out issues like uneven progression and systems that do not always connect smoothly. However, player reception has been much stronger. On Steam, around 85 percent of user reviews are positive. Many players enjoy its unique theme, addictive gameplay loop, and long-term progression.

Over time, updates and DLC expansions have also improved the experience, although these expansions are not included in the current free offer.

The developers at Lazy Bear Games are using this promotion to build interest in the upcoming sequel. Graveyard Keeper 2 is already in development and is expected to release in 2026 across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

According to data from Techlomedia Gaming, where we regularly track and analyse gaming trends, Graveyard Keeper was seeing a modest 400 to 600 daily concurrent players before this promotion. However, the free giveaway has given the game a massive boost, pushing concurrent players to around 7,415 at the time of writing. For context, the game’s all-time peak stands at 16,993 players, which was recorded back in August 2018 shortly after its release. This shows how effective limited-time free offers can be in bringing older titles back into the spotlight.

Graveyard Keeper is one of those games that does not appeal to everyone at first, but it can be surprisingly addictive once you get into it. You always have something to do, something to upgrade, and some goal to chase. Since it is free right now, there is really no reason not to try it.
