The Witcher 4. Leaks and accidental developer hints have given fans their first real glimpse of the next chapter in the monster-slaying saga. The studio has been hiring top talent, including a cinematic animator from an award-winning game, to help bring this ambitious story to life.
While Geralt of Rivia has been the face of the series, The Witcher 4 appears ready to introduce new heroes. Players may control Witchers from different schools or entirely new characters. Geralt and Ciri may appear as mentors or cameos to maintain continuity while letting the story explore fresh perspectives.
They aim to provide a big upgrade to Ciri’s movement. The animation team has created over 80 animations for basic actions using Unreal Engine 5. This will make her feel more natural and responsive as she explores Kovir. She will be able to cast spells while moving, jump, and even swim underwater to give players more freedom than before.
Combat will feel snappier, with mocap data sped up to give every strike and dodge a sharper impact. Boss fights are being treated as cinematic events, with dedicated animators ensuring high stakes and excitement.
The team is also working on making the world feel alive. NPCs will be more varied, and the environment will react to player actions. CD Projekt Red has hired a dream team of combat designers, including veterans from Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War.
Leaks hint at a grimmer tone for the game. Players may explore war-torn regions, face morally complex conflicts, and encounter new areas of the Witcher universe. The world is expected to be more interactive, with diverse social dynamics and reactive environments adding depth. This darker, mature setting could make every choice feel weighty, and every encounter feel intense.
The game is still a few years away, and we are expecting it to come out in 2027. Before this game, fans might get a final Witcher 3 DLC. It could act as a bridge between the two games and is rumored for May 2026.
CD Projekt Red will showcase The Witcher 4 at Unreal Fest 2026 from June 16–18. It is unclear if this will show full gameplay or a tech demo, but it will give fans a closer look at the game’s systems and visuals.
