India is set to host one of the biggest international esports tournaments this week. The Global Esports Games 2026 World Finals will take place in Mumbai from March 19 to March 22. This is the first time the event is being held in South Asia.

The tournament is organized by the Global Esports Federation and Eflag Corp, with support from Maharashtra Tourism. Around 70 esports athletes from 23 countries and territories will compete in the finals.

This edition will feature competitions in Dota 2 and Clash Royale, with national teams representing countries such as Argentina, Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, and Türkiye, along with the Indian team.

The Global Esports Games is a national team-based international esports tournament. Previous editions were held in cities such as Singapore, Istanbul, and Riyadh. The tournament is expected to reach a global broadcast audience of more than 40 million viewers, giving the event a significant international reach.

Apart from the esports competitions, the event will also include community and industry programs such as GEFcon and GEFestival. These segments will include fan meet-ups, discussions around esports development, and community engagement activities.

The four-day program will also feature a grand opening ceremony, playoff matches, and the final medal presentation before the event concludes with a ceremonial handover to Los Angeles, which will host another Global Esports Games event later in 2026.

The event is coming to India at a time when India’s esports ecosystem is growing quickly. Industry estimates suggest that the country’s esports market could grow from about $38 million in FY25 to around $132 million by FY30, reflecting strong growth in competitive gaming. India already has around 2.8 million competitive esports players, 40 professional teams, and close to 20 major esports titles played at a competitive level.
