Apple has launched the iPhone 17e as a new and more affordable model in the iPhone 17 series. The smartphone brings the latest A19 chip, Apple’s new C1X modem, and a 256GB base storage option.

iPhone 17e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a resolution of 2532 × 1170 pixels and 460ppi pixel density. The display offers 800 nits typical brightness and up to 1200 nits peak HDR brightness. It also supports HDR and True Tone.

The device packs Apple’s new A19 chip built on a 3nm process. It features a six-core CPU with two performance cores and four efficiency cores. Apple claims the CPU is up to twice as fast as the iPhone 11. The chip also includes a four-core GPU with hardware-accelerated ray tracing support for gaming.

There is a 16-core Neural Engine that can run large generative AI models directly on the device. It also supports Apple Intelligence features.

The iPhone 17e comes with a single 48MP Fusion camera with an f/1.6 aperture. It shoots 24MP images by default but also supports full 48MP photos. The camera uses the center of the sensor to deliver a 2x telephoto zoom with optical quality.

The phone automatically captures depth data when it detects people or pets. This allows users to adjust background blur even after taking the photo. It also includes improved HDR processing for better skin tones and details in highlights and shadows.

For video, the device supports 4K Dolby Vision recording at up to 60fps. It also records Spatial Audio and includes machine learning-based wind noise reduction. Other features include Cinematic mode up to 4K HDR at 30fps and slo-mo video at 1080p 240fps.

On the front, there is a 12MP TrueDepth camera with autofocus and support for 4K Dolby Vision recording up to 60fps.

The device also supports 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, and BeiDou. It includes emergency features like Satellite Connectivity in select countries and Crash Detection.

Apple has also introduced its new C1X modem. The company says it offers speeds similar to the iPhone Air and is up to twice as fast as the older C1 modem used in the iPhone 16e. It also consumes 30 percent less power compared to the modem inside the iPhone 16 Pro.

It packs a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery that offers up to 26 hours of video playback. The phone supports fast charging and can charge up to 50 percent in around 30 minutes using a 20W or higher adapter.

It supports MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W. This is higher than the 7.5W Qi charging limit seen on the iPhone 16e.

Price and Availability

The iPhone 17e is priced at Rs. 64,900 for the 256GB model. The 512GB variant is priced at Rs. 84,900. In the US, the smartphone is priced at USD 599.

Apple will also offer an iPhone 17e Silicone Case with MagSafe support in six colours including Black, Anchor Blue, Light Moss, Vanilla, Bright Guava and Soft Pink. The case is priced at Rs. 4,900.

The iPhone 17e will be available for order in more than 70 countries including India starting March 4. Sales will begin from March 11.
