AMD has announced the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition, the company’s first desktop processor with dual 3D V-Cache technology. The new CPU will be available worldwide starting April 22 and targets enthusiasts, high-end gamers, and power users.

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is a 16-core, 32-thread Zen 5 processor. It comes with 208MB of total cache, the most ever on a Ryzen chip. Unlike previous X3D CPUs, which added stacked cache to a single chiplet, this processor adds 3D V-Cache to both chiplets to reduce memory latency and improve performance in CPU-heavy tasks and games.

AMD claims the CPU delivers 5–10% performance gains over the standard Ryzen 9 9950X3D in workloads like DaVinci Resolve, Blender, Unreal Engine, and Chromium builds. Gamers can also expect smoother experiences in esports titles and open-world games, where a large L3 cache helps with fast access to critical data.

The CPU runs at a base clock of 4.3 GHz with a max boost of 5.6 GHz and has a 200W TDP, making it a power-hungry chip that performs best with liquid cooling. It supports DDR5 memory, PCIe 5.0, and comes unlocked for overclocking with AMD Ryzen Master support.

This release is part of AMD’s push to maximize X3D cache performance on Zen 5 before the arrival of Zen 6. While the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 may not be necessary for most users, it showcases what is possible with extreme desktop CPUs.

The processor will fit AM5 motherboards and works with a wide range of chipsets, including X670, B650, and X870 series. It also includes security features like AMD Secure Processor, AMD-V virtualization, and support for Windows Secured-Core PCs.

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is positioned as a halo product for those who demand top-tier performance, especially in gaming and creative workloads.
