WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called Group Message History. The feature allows new members to see recent messages when they join a group. This helps them understand the context of ongoing conversations without asking others to repeat information.
When someone joins a WhatsApp group, they usually cannot see earlier messages. This often creates confusion, especially in work groups, family groups, or event planning chats.
Now, when a new member joins a group, admins and group members can share recent messages with the new member. The feature allows sharing between 25 and 100 recent messages.
But this feature is optional, and Admins can disable the feature for their group if they do not want message history to be shared automatically. Even if disabled, admins still have the option to manually share history when needed.
When message history is shared, all group members are notified. The shared messages include timestamps and sender names. WhatsApp also makes these messages visually different from regular chat messages, so users can clearly see what was shared in history.
This update can be very helpful for professional and active groups. For example, in office groups, new employees can quickly understand ongoing projects. In event planning groups, new members can see important details without asking repeated questions.
It can also reduce unnecessary clutter in chats. Instead of multiple members explaining the same thing again, the message history provides context instantly.
WhatsApp has started rolling out Group Message History gradually across devices. Not all users may see the feature immediately, but it will expand over time.
