Spotify has announced a new feature called About the Song. The feature is designed to help listeners understand the stories and meaning behind the music they are listening to. The feature is currently in beta and is available directly inside the Now Playing screen.

About the Song adds short, swipeable story cards that explain the inspiration, context, and background of a track. These stories are summarized from third-party sources and highlight interesting details and behind-the-scenes moments related to the song.

Spotify says the goal is to deepen the listener’s connection with music by adding context to the listening experience. Instead of searching online, users can now explore a song’s story while it is playing.

Users can access About the Song by opening the Now Playing view in the mobile app and scrolling down. If the feature is supported for a track, an About the Song card will appear. Listeners can swipe through the cards to read more about the music.

Spotify also allows both artists and listeners to share feedback directly through the feature. The company says this feedback will help improve the experience over time.

The feature is rolling out on the Spotify mobile app for iOS and Android. It is available in English for Premium users in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia.
