WhatsApp has started rolling out new features for group chats to make groups more organised and easier to use. The new additions include member tags, text stickers, and event reminders.
The biggest change is member tags. This feature lets users add a short label to their name inside a group. It helps others understand who you are and what your role is. For example, you can appear as “Anna’s Dad” in a family group and “Goalkeeper” in a sports group. These tags are group-specific and do not change your main WhatsApp profile. This is useful in large or active groups where not everyone knows each other personally.
WhatsApp has also introduced text stickers. Users can now turn any word into a sticker by typing the text in the sticker search bar. These text stickers can be saved directly to sticker packs without sending them in a chat first. This makes stickers faster to create and easier to reuse during conversations.
Another new addition is event reminders. When you create an event in a group chat, you can now set custom reminders for participants. This helps ensure people do not miss important meetings, birthdays, or group activities. It is a small change, but it adds real value for groups that rely on WhatsApp for planning.
Over the past few years, WhatsApp has steadily improved group chat features. It has added support for sharing large files up to 2GB, sending HD photos and videos, screen sharing during calls, voice chats for large groups, and better admin controls. These updates show WhatsApp’s shift from a simple messaging app to a more complete communication platform.
