Lenovo has officially announced a SteamOS version of the Legion Go 2 at CES 2026. This new variant is aimed at gamers who prefer a console-like experience instead of Windows on a handheld device. The company calls it Legion Go 2, Powered by SteamOS, and it is scheduled to launch in June.
The SteamOS model will start at a price of $1,199.
The Legion Go 2 with SteamOS uses the same hardware as the Windows version. The main difference is the operating system. Lenovo has replaced Windows with SteamOS, Valveās Linux-based gaming platform.
SteamOS is designed mainly for gaming. It offers a simpler interface, faster access to games, and features like quick suspend and resume. This makes it more suitable for users who plan to use the handheld only for gaming.
The device features a large 8.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and a 16:10 aspect ratio. It supports a 144Hz refresh rate with variable refresh rate support and can reach up to 500 nits of brightness.
Like the Windows version, the Legion Go 2 includes detachable controllers, a built-in kickstand, and a microSD card slot. It packs a 74Wh battery, but at around 2.2 pounds, it is still on the heavier side compared to other handheld gaming consoles.
Lenovo will offer the SteamOS Legion Go 2 in two hardware configurations. The base model comes with an AMD Ryzen Z2 processor, 16GB of memory, and 1TB of storage. The higher-end version features the Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, paired with up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage. The Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor includes 8 cores and 16 threads, with boost speeds of up to 5GHz. This makes the device more powerful than many existing handheld gaming systems.
The device offers same ports as the Windows model. It includes two USB-C ports with USB4 support, DisplayPort 1.4, and Power Delivery 3.0. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card reader that supports cards up to 2TB.
While it is technically possible to install SteamOS on the Windows version of the Legion Go 2, the experience is not always smooth. Lenovo says the SteamOS edition is fully optimized for the hardware, which should result in better stability and performance.
