Epic Games Store has rolled out a new free game. This week’s free title is Rustler: Grand Theft Horse, a medieval open world game that makes fun of everything it touches. The game replaces last week’s Styx giveaway, and players have seven days to claim it and keep it forever.

Rustler was released in 2021 and developed by Jutsu Games. It is clearly inspired by the early Grand Theft Auto games, but instead of modern cities and fast cars, it drops players into a broken medieval world. Nothing here is accurate, and the game does not even try to pretend. That is what makes it special.

You play as a medieval thug who lives in chaos. The world is open, strange, and filled with pop culture jokes. You can take on bizarre missions or completely ignore the story and just create trouble. You can drift horse carts, steal horses, and even get punished for parking in no horse zones. It feels silly, but it works.

The game constantly throws unexpected moments at you. You can fight in cage tournaments, dig up dinosaur skeletons, and mess around in villages and cities. One of the most memorable features is the bard system. Bards follow you and play music like a moving radio. If you do not like the song, you just punch the bard to change it.

Combat is simple but flexible. You can fight with swords or switch to an automatic crossbow. You can walk everywhere or ride a stolen horse. The game gives you freedom, but it also laughs at you while you use it. The humor is heavily inspired by Monty Python and does not hold back.

Rustler: Grand Theft Horse is now free on the Epic Games Store. PC gamers can add it to their library at no cost during the next seven days. The offer will end on January 29, when Epic Games Store is expected to reveal its next free game.
