Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is rolling out its first mid-season update on January 8, and it brings a large Fallout crossover that goes well beyond cosmetic content. Treyarch has added new modes, map variants, world events, and gameplay mechanics inspired by the Fallout universe.
The highlight of the update is a Fallout-style world event in Avalon, where players enter a bombed-out wasteland and face enemies like Feral Ghouls and a full-scale Deathclaw. This adds a more PvE-focused layer to the experience, which is rare for standard Call of Duty multiplayer.
Multiplayer also gets Vault Town, a Fallout-themed version of Nuketown filled with Vault-Tec visuals and retro-apocalyptic details. Two limited-time modes are included. S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Mayhem introduces radiation effects and Fallout power-ups such as Nuka-Cola and RadAway, while Ghouls mode reworks Infected by turning eliminated players into feral ghouls.
Zombies mode sees Fallout enemies invade maps like Ashes of the Damned and Astra Malorum, with radiation becoming a growing threat as rounds progress. In Warzone, players can now use Power Armor by collecting Fusion Cores, offering heavy defense, jetpack movement, and explosive exits.
Having followed Call of Duty updates for years, this crossover feels more ambitious than most. It aligns well with Fallout’s growing presence across media and shows how Call of Duty is increasingly using themed events to refresh its seasonal content.
With Fallout also expanding into television and other media, this crossover feels strategically timed. If player response is strong, it would not be surprising to see Call of Duty lean further into large-scale themed events like this in future seasons.
