Apple has launched a new version of the AirTag. The device focuses on making lost items easier to find. While the design remains unchanged, the second-generation AirTag brings meaningful upgrades to tracking range, sound output, and device support.

The biggest improvement comes from Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. This allows Precision Finding to work from up to 50 percent farther away than the previous model. Apple has also added an upgraded Bluetooth chip, which helps items get detected from a longer distance on the Find My network, even before Precision Finding starts working.

Apple has also fixed one of the main complaints about the original AirTag. The new model comes with a redesigned internal layout that makes the speaker 50 percent louder. Apple says the sound can now be heard from up to twice the distance. This change makes it easier to locate items hidden in bags, under furniture, or around the house.

For the first time, Precision Finding is available on Apple Watch. Users with Apple Watch Series 9 or later, or Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, can find AirTags directly from their wrist using visual, audio, and haptic feedback. This feature is useful when the iPhone is not nearby.

The new AirTag continues to rely on Apple’s Find My network, which uses nearby Apple devices to anonymously help locate items when they are out of Bluetooth range. Apple has also added the Share Item Location feature, allowing users to temporarily share the location of a lost item with trusted third parties.

Apple says more than 50 airlines now support this feature. Industry data shows that this integration has helped reduce baggage delays by 26 percent and cut unrecoverable luggage cases by 90 percent. Shared location links automatically expire after seven days or once the item is recovered.

Privacy and security remain a key focus. The AirTag uses end-to-end encryption for location data, Bluetooth identifiers rotate frequently, and cross-platform alerts are enabled to prevent unwanted tracking. Apple once again stressed that AirTag is designed to track objects, not people.

There is no change in pricing. In India, the new AirTag costs Rs. 3,790 for a single unit and Rs. 12,900 for a pack of four. The AirTag FineWoven Key Ring is priced at Rs. 3,900 and is available in fox orange, midnight purple, navy, moss, and black.
