Sega and Creative Assembly have revealed Total War: Warhammer 40,000 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The studio is finally bringing its iconic strategy formula to the grim, war-torn universe of Warhammer 40K. There is no release date yet, but the announcement has already generated huge excitement.
The game takes players into the Era Indomitus, a dark period where the galaxy is locked in endless conflict. Total War’s mix of turn-based strategy and massive real-time battles fits naturally into this setting. You will command four major factions at launch, Space Marines, Orks, Aeldari, and Astra Militarum, each offering its own combat style, units, and lore-driven mechanics.
One of the biggest features this time is deep army customization. Players can choose famous sub-factions or build their own warband from scratch. You can pick colors, create emblems, and personalize your army’s identity. Creative Assembly also lets you modify your faction’s playstyle by selecting traits, abilities, and unique wargear. The aim is to bring tabletop-style freedom into the video game.
The campaign unfolds across a galactic map where you fight for entire planets. You will expand your empire, upgrade fleets, manage resources, and launch assaults from orbit. Ground battles remain the heart of the experience, featuring iconic units such as elite squads, tanks, walkers, and massive war machines. Some fights take place on diverse biomes and destructible environments that change as the battle unfolds. And when things get truly desperate, you can even unleash planet-destroying weapons.
There is no release timeline yet, but this is one of the most ambitious Total War projects in years. Fans of strategy games and Warhammer 40K will be watching closely for more updates.
