A new Star Wars game set in the Old Republic era has been announced. Arcanaut Studios, in partnership with Lucasfilm Games, is working on Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic for consoles and PC. The release date has not been shared yet.

The game is directed by Casey Hudson, the creator of Mass Effect and the director of the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. His return to this universe is a big reason why fans are excited.

The developers describe this game as a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG. It is also called a “spiritual successor” to KOTOR. The story takes place in a galaxy that is about to change, and the choices you make will push your character toward the light or the dark.

Hudson said that working on the first KOTOR was one of the most important moments of his career. With this new game, he wants to tell a completely fresh story that focuses on choice, destiny, and the fight between light and darkness. He also said it feels great to work with Lucasfilm Games again.

Jay Ong, president of Disney Games Group, praised Hudson and the team. He said Arcanaut Studios is full of people who love storytelling and world-building, and this is exactly the kind of ambitious Star Wars game they want to deliver.

Lucasfilm Games vice president Douglas Reilly added that the Old Republic era is one of the most loved settings in Star Wars. He said the studio is creating a new story that fans have never seen before and that it will be exciting to share more in the future.

While the studios have not shown gameplay yet, they say the focus is on a strong single-player story and a big Star Wars world full of conflict and mystery. For fans of KOTOR and classic RPGs, Star Wars: Fate of The Old Republic looks like a promising return to the style of storytelling many players still love.
