Meta has launched the second generation of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in India, only a short time after bringing the first-generation model to the country. The new Gen 2 version comes with meaningful upgrades in video quality, battery performance, design options, and AI features. With this launch, Meta is clearly trying to push smart glasses beyond a niche gadget and make them useful for daily life.
The biggest upgrade is in video and camera performance. The new glasses now support 3K Ultra HD video recording and ultrawide HDR. This will help users capture more detailed videos with better dynamic range, especially in outdoor conditions or bright environments. Meta is also planning to roll out hyperlapse and slow-motion modes through software updates. That shows the company wants these glasses to act as a true hands-free camera for creators and everyday users.

Battery life has also received a major improvement. The Gen 2 model offers up to eight hours of use on a single charge. Meta says the glasses can charge to 50 percent in just 20 minutes, which will be useful for people who record often. The charging case adds another 48 hours of power, making it easier to travel with the glasses without worrying about charging them frequently. This solves one of the biggest complaints about older smart glasses: short battery life.
In terms of design, Meta is keeping the classic Ray-Ban appeal intact. The Gen 2 collection comes in Wayfarer, Skyler, and Headliner styles. These are popular designs, and Meta is adding new seasonal colors like Shiny Cosmic Blue, Shiny Mystic Violet, and Shiny Asteroid Grey. The company knows the glasses need to look good first, and the tech should blend naturally into the frame. The new styles make them feel more like premium sunglasses rather than a tech experiment.
Meta AI has also been upgraded. Users can activate it by saying “Hey Meta” and ask quick questions, get recommendations, control media, or generate creative prompts. What stands out for India is full Hindi support. People can talk to the glasses in Hindi for capturing photos or videos, playing music, or replying to messages. This makes the device more accessible to Indian users, especially when you want to use it hands-free. There is also a Conversation Focus feature that improves voice clarity in noisy environments.
Another interesting addition is the Celebrity AI Voice feature. In India, Meta has introduced Deepika Padukone’s AI voice as an option. Users can have conversations with the assistant using her voice. This may sound like a fun feature, but it also shows how Meta is trying to add personality and familiarity to its AI system.
A major upcoming feature for India is UPI-Lite payments directly from the glasses. Users will be able to look at a QR code and say, “Hey Meta, scan and pay.” The payment will be processed through the user’s WhatsApp-linked bank account. If this works smoothly, it could become one of the most practical features for daily life in India. Contactless UPI payments without reaching for your phone is a big convenience.
The Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) collection is available across Ray-Ban India’s website and authorized retailers. Prices start at Rs. 39,900 and go up to Rs. 45,700 depending on the model and lens configuration.
The Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) glasses feel much more complete than the previous generation. The video quality upgrade, Hindi support, celebrity voices, and UPI payments make it more relevant for Indian users. The long battery life also solves a major limitation of earlier smart glasses.
However, the price still keeps it in the premium and early-adopter segment. The glasses offer great convenience, but they are not meant for everyone yet. If you are a creator, traveler, or someone who likes wearable tech, the Gen 2 model feels far more practical and polished compared to the first generation. For general users, it will depend on how much value they see in hands-free recording and AI assistance.
