Micron has confirmed that it will shut down its Crucial consumer business. Crucial has been a popular brand for RAM and SSDs, but the company says it now needs to focus on the fast-growing AI market.
Micron explains that AI and machine learning have created a huge demand for memory and storage. Data centers need more RAM than ever, and memory prices have reached record highs. Because of this, Micron wants to use its supply for enterprise customers instead of consumer products.
Sumit Sadana, EVP and Chief Business Officer at Micron, says the decision was difficult but necessary. He also says the company wants to support bigger customers in faster-growing segments. In simple terms, AI now makes Micron more money than regular PC parts.
This change feels similar to what happened with GPU makers in the past. Nvidia and AMD also shifted their focus to AI, leaving gamers to deal with high prices and limited stock. Now the memory market is going through the same shift.
Crucial will continue selling products until February 2026, after which the brand will shut down completely. Micron promises full warranty support even after the closure.
