After several years of silence in the smartphone market, Finland-based Jolla has introduced a brand-new device simply called the Jolla Phone. This new model follows the company’s original 2013 phone but stays true to its core idea of offering an independent, community-driven device with a removable back cover and a replaceable battery.
The company describes it as an independent European Do-It-Together Linux phone, built around privacy, longevity, and openness. It will be available in three colors inspired by Nordic elements: Snow White, Kaamos Black, and The Orange.
The new Jolla Phone features a 6.36-inch AMOLED display with Full HD resolution and roughly 390 ppi, protected by Gorilla Glass. The brand continues its commitment to hardware freedom with a user-replaceable 5,500 mAh battery and a removable back cover, something rare in today’s smartphone space.
The phone has a special hardware Privacy Switch that lets users instantly disable the microphone, camera, Bluetooth, or even Android app components. This focus on privacy carries over to the software as well. The phone runs Sailfish OS 5, a Linux-based operating system with no tracking or analytics baked in. Jolla promises at least five years of OS support, and everything remains governed under European privacy rules.

Jolla has not named the exact MediaTek chipset, but confirms that the phone uses a 5G-capable MediaTek platform. It comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, which can be expanded up to 2TB via microSDXC.
It has a 50MP main camera paired with a 13MP ultrawide lens. The front camera resolution has not been revealed yet.
For Android app users, Sailfish OS includes Jolla AppSupport. It allows Android apps to run on the device. Users can also turn off Android components whenever they want, staying in full control.
Connectivity options include dual nano-SIM with 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC. The phone also features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and an RGB notification LED.
Pricing and availability
The Jolla Phone is now open for pre-orders. Buyers need to pay €99 upfront, while the full pre-order price stands at €499. Once officially released, the regular retail price is expected to fall between €599 and €699.
Jolla plans to begin production only if a minimum of 2,000 units is reached by January 4, 2026. The target has already been surpassed, with over 2,500 pre-orders placed and the project reaching 125% funding at the time of writing.
