Instagram has started rolling out a new tool that gives users more control over what they see on the platform. The feature, called ” Your Algorithm,” is powered by AI. It aims to help people adjust their Reels recommendations based on their changing interests. It is available in the US starting today and will expand globally in English over the coming weeks.

The idea behind the tool is simple. Instagram wants to make the algorithm feel less like a black box and more like something users can adjust. Reels is one of the platform’s most popular sections, but it also drives constant debate about how much control users actually have over the content that appears. With this new change, the company wants to address that concern.

“Your Algorithm” can be accessed through a new icon in the top-right corner of the Reels tab. It looks like two lines with small hearts. When users tap it, they will see three main options. The first shows Instagram’s summary of their top interests.

This gives a clear look at what the algorithm thinks they like based on their activity. The second option allows users to tell Instagram what they want to see more or less of. The third option lets them share their interest profile on Stories.

Instagram says it will soon bring the same level of control to the Explore tab and other parts of the app. This could be helpful because many users still feel overwhelmed by content they never asked for, especially on Explore.

This update is a positive step. Giving people more control over recommendations is something social platforms should have done years ago. At the same time, questions remain about how much influence users will truly have. Algorithms are complex and constantly learning, so it is unclear how big an impact these adjustments will make in the long run.
